Searching For The Meaning of Life: My Journey As A Millennial
My Millennial Life Crisis Once Again Led Me to Searching For The Meaning of Life and Happiness Beyond Money. Here's What I Experienced While Redefine Meaning

The Race Between Earn and Spend
In a world where life feels like an endless race to earn more, spend more, and somehow be more. I’ve often found myself asking a question that many human being before me have pondered: What is the meaning of life? Is it about accumulating wealth? Reaching a dream destination? Or is it something entirely different?
I’v a confusion that may be we’ve mistaken the finish line for the starting point. As a millennial who grew up in a capitalist society, I was no exception. From the tender age of 19, I stepped into the working world with big dreams: make loads of money, buy a house, own a sleek car, and—magically—happiness would follow.
Spoiler alert: it didn’t!
Just a night before my 29th birthday, after a long, chaotic day, I came back home and found myself sitting on the couch, lost in thought. I started reflecting on my life, the road I’d already traveled, and the experiences I’d had. Honestly, it wasn’t a pleasant journey to revisit.
I looked around my apartment, and it felt like a mirror of my life—completely chaotic. My study table had stopped being a place for studying; it had become a landfill of snack wrappers and empty coffee cups. My gym membership card sat in a drawer, untouched for months, silently mocking me. Staring at the ceiling, a thought hit me like a punch to the gut: “What am I even doing with my life?”
The Millennial Life Crisis: Chasing an Illusion
I started my career with the belief that once I earned "enough," life would finally begin. But what is enough? It’s a moving target, like trying to grasp the horizon—it looks close, but you can never reach it. I sacrificed time, energy, and relationships, hoping to secure a future. But alas! that future remained distant no matter how hard I worked.
Ten years later, I had checked many boxes—stable income, financial independence(kind of)—but the fulfillment I expected never arrived. It was then moment when I realized that the meaning of life isn’t something you achieve; it’s something you create every day.
The Nudge
One seemingly ordinary day, I passed by a boxing club on my way to work. Watching young boys train remind me a childhood dream. The dream which I had long abandoned—to train, to build strength, to feel alive in my own body. I had some immuno-physical issues back then; that's why the achievement of physical strength was so lucrative for me. I had spent years postponing my dreams for someday. But now I'm scared that what if that day never came?
That moment hit me harder than I expected. I wasn’t just neglecting a hobby; I was ignoring life itself. I had spent years on autopilot, chasing goals that society told me were important. But to fulfill society's goal, I am losing sight of what truly matters to me.
The Wake-Up Call
That boxing club wasn’t just a nudge; it was a slap in the face. For a decade, I had worked hard and earned decently, but my life was messy—inside and out. My apartment reflected my priorities, or lack thereof. My health had taken a backseat to everything else.
I realized I wasn’t alone in this. Many of my peers were in the same boat: busy but not productive. earning but not saving. connected on social media but disconnected in real life. We were stuck in a cycle of doing rather than being. chasing rather than living.
Redefining Life’s Meaning
On my 29th birthday, I made a promise to stop living for a distant future and start living now. Instead of seeing life as a straight path leading to a single point of success, I began viewing it as a journey—a journey to be embraced, not just endured.
I took small but significant steps: I started organizing my apartment, creating a space that reflected clarity instead of chaos. I reconnected with hobbies that brought me joy. I prioritized relationships, knowing that the people in my life held far more meaning than any financial milestone ever could.
